“The aim of literary criticism is never to try to guess “what the author meant.” What (good) scholars are doing is trying to give a personal interpretation of a particular work, and demonstrate how such an interpretation is relevant and/or interesting for the readership. And, by the way, we don’t really give a fuck about the author. Once he/she publishes a work, it belongs to everybody, not just to him/her.”
